Tips for Successful Tattoo Experience
Before You Tattoo: Chapter 4
More Things You Should Think About
Sensitive Body Spots
Have someone press down, stroke and feel the spot that you’ve decided to get a tattoo and the surrounding areas. We moved recently and after what seemed like days of lifting boxes, I went for a massage. When the therapist pressed down in the small of my back, I screamed, scared the hell out of her and fell off the table. You do not want that to happen in the middle of a tattoo.
Find out if you have ticklish or sensitive spots. Tell your tattoo artist what they are.
Moles
Don’t get a tattoo that covers a mole. Certain moles can turn cancerous and a tattoo might hide warning indicators.
Areas with scar tissue and stretch marks
Not the best choice for a tattoo. Scar tissue tends not to hold ink well.
Tanned Skin
Skin that is not exposed to sun will take a tattoo better than an area that has been heavily tanned.
Knees, Ankles, Elbows and Wrists
Areas that bend or wrinkle are prone to tattoo blurring.
Areas that you shave
No shaving until your tattoo has healed completed. No depilatories.
Bring Along a Friend
Morale support can be very helpful. Leave the kids at home.
Meditate
It can calm your nerves. Practice deep breathing.
Don’t Haggle over Price
I know I keep repeating myself on this. Don’t creative ill will. Your tattoo artist can make or break your tattooing experience. Show respect.
Weight Loss or Gain
Will distort your tattoo.
Aging
Your tattoo can fade and if you wrinkle or sag, your tattoo can distort. Plan on getting touch ups every 10 to 15 years.
Buy Supplies in Advance
After you get the tattoo, you must care for it. Ask in advance what ointment your tattooist recommends. Buy it and have it ready before you get your tattoo.
Job Advancement
There is still prejudice against people with tattoos in hiring situations. Make sure your tattoos are not visible if you are going to work in a conservative industry.
You have to get a job and you might find it turning into a successful career.
Skin Color
You have to remember that the ink will show from under a layer of skin. The natural pigment of your skin will have an effect on the color. For darker skin tones, it’s recommended that you stick to darker colors and black. Ask your artist, what colors will suit you.
And most importantly,
You are in control of your Tattoo experience
If you need a break, let your tattoo artist know.
If you have to get up and walk away, do so.
